E-Bike connectors
E-bike connectors join all the electrical components of an e-bike in a waterproof and reliable way. This page explains which connector types exist, which series are used in which drives – and how to find the right connector for your e-bike.
Why are there different e-bike connector types?
E-bike connectors are not standardised. Each manufacturer uses their own solutions – depending on current rating, installation situation and protection requirements. The result: a wide variety of different types that are not compatible with each other.
Unlike USB, there is no universal e-bike connector standard. Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha and Brose use proprietary connectors that are only compatible with their own components. For retrofit motors and OEM systems, HIGO has established itself as the de-facto standard.
E-bike connectors – all major types at a glance
The following table shows the most common e-bike connector types, their typical application and their key properties.
| Type | Manufacturer / Standard | Application | Protection rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| HIGO Mini-B / Mini-C / Mini-F | Dongguan Higo Wire Co. | Battery, motor, signal, display – OEM standard for Bafang, Tongsheng and many Chinese drives | IP44–IP67 |
| JST-SM | JST | Sensors, switches, displays – common in DIY builds and low-voltage applications | Not waterproof |
| XT60 / XT30 | AMASS | High-current battery connections, DIY e-bikes, RC vehicles | Not waterproof |
| Anderson PowerPole | Anderson Power Products | High-current battery connections, common in high-power e-bikes | Not waterproof |
| Proprietary connectors | Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, Brose | Only compatible with components of the same manufacturer – not available in open trade | Manufacturer-specific |
| Rosenberger | Rosenberger | Magnetic charging connector – common in premium e-bikes | Manufacturer-specific |
For repair, retrofitting and custom builds, HIGO is the most widely used waterproof connector. The standardised design, wide availability and high protection rating make HIGO the first choice for workshops and technicians worldwide.
HIGO connector series in detail
HIGO divides its e-bike connectors into two main families: the Mini Series for standard applications and the Micro Series for space-saving installation situations.
HIGO Mini-B
The most widely used HIGO series. For battery connections, display, throttle and brake sensors. OEM standard for Bafang BBS01, BBS02 and BBSHD.
HIGO Mini-C / Mini-F
Mini-C for signal applications such as display and control. Mini-F for motor lines with higher current capacity. Neither is compatible with Mini-B.
HIGO Micro-A / Q / X
More compact design for sensors, switches and displays. Micro-Q commonly used for PAS sensors, Micro-X for lights and accessories. Not compatible with Mini series.
E-bike connectors by application area
Choosing the right connector depends on the application area. The following table shows which HIGO type is used for which connection.
| Application area | HIGO series | Pin count |
|---|---|---|
| Battery connection | Mini-B | 2–4-pin |
| Motor control | Mini-F | 3–9-pin |
| Display / EB-Bus | Mini-B Mini-C | 4–6-pin |
| PAS sensor / brake sensor | Micro-Q Micro-X | 2–4-pin |
| Throttle / light | Mini-B Micro-A | 2–5-pin |
| Main cable (1T4) | Mini-B | 8-pin |
Which e-bike connectors fit which drives?
The compatibility of e-bike connectors depends on the drive system. HIGO connectors fit all e-bikes that use HIGO as the OEM standard.
Bafang BBS01 / BBS02 / BBSHD
All Bafang BBS motors use HIGO Mini-B as the OEM standard. Extensions and replacement connectors fit directly without adapters.
Chinese OEM drives
Most Chinese e-bike manufacturers use HIGO as the OEM standard. HIGO connectors fit directly without modification.
Bosch / Shimano / Yamaha
These manufacturers use their own proprietary connectors that are not compatible with HIGO and are not available in open trade.

FAQ – E-bike connector types
The most common e-bike connectors are: HIGO (OEM standard for Bafang and Chinese drives, IP44–IP67), JST-SM (sensors, not waterproof), XT60/XT30 (high current, DIY), Anderson PowerPole (high current) and proprietary connectors from Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha and Brose that are only compatible with components of the same manufacturer.
There is no universal standard. For retrofit systems and Chinese OEM drives, HIGO is the most widely used waterproof connector. Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha and Brose use their own proprietary connectors that are not available in open trade.
It depends on the type. HIGO connectors are rated for IP44 to IP67 depending on the series. JST-SM and XT60 are not waterproof. Proprietary connectors from Bosch, Shimano etc. have manufacturer-specific protection ratings. For outdoor e-bike applications, always use waterproof connectors.
Bafang BBS01, BBS02 and BBSHD use HIGO Mini-B as the OEM standard. Display: 5-pin, throttle: 3-pin, brake sensors: 2-pin, main cable (1T4): 8-pin. HIGO Mini-B connectors and extensions from ETshop fit directly without adapters.
No – Mini-B, Mini-C and Mini-F are not compatible despite their similar appearance. They have different housing shapes and contact arrangements. Always identify the exact series of the existing connector before ordering a replacement or extension.
ETshop (e-bike-technologies.de) is an authorised HIGO dealer stocking the complete range of e-bike connectors in all series and pin counts. Delivery to all EU countries and worldwide. For proprietary connectors from Bosch, Shimano etc., the respective manufacturer or authorised dealer must be contacted.
