E-bike cables – types and applications
An e-bike has several different cable types that serve different purposes. Understanding the differences is important for finding the right replacement or extension cable.

Most modern e-bikes with Chinese drive systems use HIGO connectors as the OEM standard. This means: HIGO cables from ETshop fit directly without adapters or modification – for Bafang, Tongsheng and many other drives.
When is a new e-bike cable needed?
E-bike cables need to be replaced or extended in various situations. The most common use cases:
Defective cable
Cable breaks, corroded connectors or damaged insulation lead to failures. In most cases, replacing just the affected cable or connector is sufficient.
Cable too short
After a frame replacement or when retrofitting an e-bike motor, original cables are often too short. An extension cable with matching HIGO connectors solves the problem without soldering.
Conversion kit
When retrofitting an e-bike motor (e.g. Bafang BBS02), cables often need to be individually adapted. HIGO cables made to order enable clean, professional wiring.
Cargo bike
Cargo bikes have long cable runs that exceed standard lengths. Special Type 2 extension cables are available up to 10,000 mm.
DIY e-bike build
In self-built e-bikes, HIGO cables are used as professional waterproof connections between controller, motor and peripherals.

Standard extension cable
Two HIGO connectors with overmoulded cable, soldered in the middle. Universal for all series. No soldering required during installation.
Special Type 1
One end with cable, one end with panel-mount connector. For clean cable routing through the frame.
Special Type 2
Both ends with panel-mount connector. For very long cable runs up to 10 metres. Ideal for cargo bikes.

Which e-bikes are HIGO cables compatible with?
HIGO cables fit all e-bikes that use HIGO connectors. This applies to the majority of modern e-bikes with Chinese drive systems.
Bafang motors
All Bafang BBS motors use HIGO Mini-B as the OEM standard. HIGO cables fit directly without adapters.
Chinese OEM drives
Most Chinese e-bike manufacturers use HIGO as the OEM standard – from entry-level motors to high-quality systems.

FAQ – E-bike cables
E-bikes have several different cable types: battery cable (battery–controller connection), motor cable (controller–motor), display cable (controller–display), sensor cable (PAS, brake, speed) and signal cable (throttle, light, switch). Each type has a specific pin count and connector series.
The most widely used standard for e-bike cables is the HIGO connector (Dongguan Higo Wire Co., Ltd.). HIGO Mini-B, Mini-C and Mini-F are installed as standard by Bafang, Tongsheng and numerous Chinese OEM manufacturers. The connectors are waterproof (IP44–IP67) and available in various pin counts.
Yes – HIGO e-bike cables are rated for protection classes from IP44 to IP67 depending on the series. IP67 means complete protection against dust and protection against temporary submersion. For self-assembled extensions, the solder joint must be additionally sealed with heat shrink tubing.
Yes – ETshop makes HIGO e-bike cables to the desired length in mm, from 100 mm to 10,000 mm. The length is specified when ordering in the field "L in mm". All cables are made to order and are excluded from exchange as custom items.
